In parks, where low ground impact is required, the Spider is the ideal machine for picking up dead fall and green kill from the pine beetle and stacking it into burn piles.

On a day with ideal ventilation, the piles can be easily lit.

The power cable for the new cell tower had to be laid underground through the forest. SPIDEX dug the trench for the cable in the rough and steep terrain.

With our machine mounted hydraulic winch, we pulled the power cable in as we went.

The reel stand was supplied and set up by SPIDEX.

For BC Hydro, we had to deconstruct an old concrete dam that used to hold water.

In collaboration with the BCH crew, the dam was cut into pieces and loaded into a cable car system to haul it off the hill.

Because of a waterfall and several houses below, the dam could not be just deconstructed down the slope.

Due to the experience and professionalism of SPIDEX and the BCH crew, the job was accomplished in a safe and efficient manner.

The main concern when working in fish habitat is having as little impact as possible. With the Spider, we walk in the creek bed without disturbing the prevailing conditions.
We are able to provide environmentally safe conditions in a conceivable case of emergency thanks to the fully biodegradable hydraulic fluid we are using.

Creek Bed Reinforcement

This creek bed was undermined by water containing rubble during melting season and storms. This more and more threatened the adjacent properties. With the Spider, we literally crawled up the rocky creek and stabilized the bed with boulders which were up to 4000kg.

The creek was accessible from the ocean only, which required the use of a barge. Some work on the estuary was completed directly from the barge.
The captain just loved the rubber tires of the Spider because they didn’t damage the wooden surface of the barge like track hoes do.

Log- Box Systems

Another specialty of Spidex is the stabilisation of creek beds and banks.

Driftwood and beaver dam removal

Because of a minimal footprint and the turnable grapple bucket, Spidex keeps the silt disturbance to a minimum.

Watersheds

Over time, because of wind and the current of water, driftwood reaches dams and gets stuck. To properly maintain the dam, the wood needs to be removed.

With the 360 degree rotating grapple bucket, we pick up trunks no matter how they are lying.

Marsh

To dewater a marsh area, water ditches are inevitable. The challenging part is to work on the soft ground in order to build the trench.

Lakeshore

With the Spider, we work in up to 6 feet deep water.

Spidex reconstructed a rock wall that collapsed because of erosion in collaboration with Bear Paw Earthworks. The endlessly turnable grapple bucket gives more options for placing the rocks. The only access to the wall was from the seaside. To be allowed to work in lakes and creeks, a machine needs to run on fully biodegradable hydraulic fluid.

Swimming Pools

To have a swimming pool or a rock wall built in the backyard can cause problems because of the restricted accessibility. We fit through a passage that is 8 feet wide and are still able to build a rock wall with up to 5- footers. This is what makes Spidex unique.

Confined space is always a big drawback when working in residential areas. We placed the Spider on the bank of the pool with its legs on various levels to be able to bring the rocks into place. Landscaping

Grading and digging irrigation trenches on side slopes is easy with this machine.

Septic Systems

Where space is limited to build a septic system, the use of a Spider is the right decision. It is smaller in size but still able to set the heavy concrete tanks into place.

Marmot Basin installed fences for future snow farming. Spidex was contracted to place the sleeves but instead of digging, we pounded the holes. This has the advantage that the sleeves have a much more solid base. Watch the video and see our testimonials

Boulder and stump removal and burn piling

If boulder fields need to leveled, we use our grapple bucket to replace the rocks. Stump removal and burn piles are another option to smooth out runs

Ski-lift tower foundations

We do excavations for chairlift towers and terminals for both Leitner Poma and Doppelmayr CETEC. The use of a Spider has advantages in national parks, where low ground impact is requested or in areas where the terrain makes the use of a conventional excavator impossible. We demolish and reclaim previous tower footings.

Vegetation control on skiruns

We are specialized in mulching previously hand- logged skiruns. We mulch the stumps and the stems down to ground level but also brush diamond black skiruns that are overgrown with alders or willows.

An old dump site below a cliff in a marsh needed to be removed and properly disposed in a landfill. Because this dump was in a protected wildlife area, ground impact had to be as low as possible. To further reduce the impact, the work had to be done when the marsh was frozen so we could move in with our equipment on the ice.

Decommissioning

When removing fuel tanks at gas stations, workspace is always limited, especially in cities. We are able to place our machine on banks or piles to leave enough room for trucking.

Concrete Demolition

We provide demolition services with our hydraulic breaker including hauling of the debris off site.

With the mulcherhead, we are able to clear the steep ski runs of bushes and trees. Otherwise, these slopes are accessible by foot only, which involves laborious manual cutting. After the mulching process, small chips are covering the ground instead of whole branches as it would be after hand clearing.
After mulching the slopes, there will be much less snow needed to enjoy perfect powder runs in the winter.

Right of Ways

We cleared the right of way underneath Jasper Tramway. In the extremely steep and difficult terrain, we tapped the full potential of the machine and operator in order to safely and efficiently finish the job.. Read the whole story (pdf)

Due to hazards in the working area (including power lines), we sometimes have to fell some trees by hand and mulch them at a different location. We can easily move trees with the thumb on the mulcher.

For fuel reduction purposes, we cut and limb trees and haul them away.

We were replacing cable posts for Telus in difficult accessible terrain next to Hwy 1. Spidex dug the holes, placed the new posts and removed the old ones.
